Karatsu, known as the old Karatsu pottery clay, uses clay from Yamase. It is a beautiful piece with a bright biwa color and the plum blossom skin on the hill and the potter's wheel pattern that is unique to handicrafts. In addition , there is a traditional design ``meato'' (small dirt unevenness) on the surface of the pottery, which is a traditional design that occurs during the kiln firing process.
