Carved Karatsu is a technique unique to Karatsu ware, in which after molding, while the clay is still soft, an X is carved into the clay and then a feldspar glaze is applied. The strong carved pattern and the kairagi within the carving are noteworthy. This piece also shows Yohen(kiln changes), which are truly the product of the chance action of fire. The double foot ring and Tokin on the foot ring are also highlights. The inside of the piece shows the potter's wheel marks that can only be seen in handmade products. The more you use a sake vessel, the more it will change and become more tasteful. Please enjoy the process of it nurturing and changing.
