New arrivals and restocking will be notified by mail magazine on a priority basis.
The "Cloisonne Tatami Tea Mat" was made to order by Mr. Naohiro Tokuda, the fourth-generation successor to the long-established Tokuda Tatami Fusuma Store, established in 1905 in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and a much talked-about tatami craftsman. The material used is natural Japanese rushes, which are also the raw material for tatami. Rushes have antibacterial and deodorizing effects, and the scent of rushes has a relaxing effect. The size is 11.8 in (W) x 7.9 in (D), which fits plates perfectly and goes well with other Japanese tableware to create a Japanese atmosphere on your dining table. The four sides are finished with a traditional Japanese "Shippo-gara(cloisonne pattern)" pattern using the edges of tatami mats. This design is a pattern of an endless chain of circles, and is associated with good fortune, such as "happiness" and "prosperity of offspring". Today, with the spread of wooden flooring, many households do not have a Japanese-style room with tatami mats. Tatami is a uniquely Japanese culture, and we would be happy if you could casually enjoy the aroma and texture of rush grass, the raw material of tatami, as a tea mat.
