Arita ware | Takuma Tsuji | Line engraved blowing ink medium plate “Rain Scent”

This plate is decorated with fresh hydrangeas using the ``line engraving'' technique (Sogama's unique technique of drawing pictures on porcelain clay using needles and carvings) that has been passed down through generations of Takuma Tsuji's kilns. In the background, a scene of falling rain is expressed using the traditional Arita ware technique, ``blowing ink (fukizumi)''. It is a slightly larger 6-inch plate (approximately 18 cm) and has a moderate depth, so it can be used for a wide variety of purposes, such as serving salads for one person, and boiled fish and other stews.
