A distinctive feature of Kawakujira is the black rim around the mouth. The origin of “Kawakujira” is that the black edge of the mouth is likened to the skin of a whale (the back), and the white of the body of the vessel is likened to the body (belly) of a whale. One of the highlights is the black candy glaze flowing gently from the rim of the mouth, reminiscent of Korean Karatsu. How about a teacup with the dynamic movement of clay that is unique to Karatsu ware and the soft texture that can only be achieved with earthenware, giving a sense of warmth to your everyday dining table?
