Hori-Karatsu is a technique unique to Karatsu ware, in which an x mark is carved into the clay while it is still soft after molding, and a feldspar glaze is applied. The highlight is the powerful carving pattern and “Kairagi” inside the carving. The clay is from Yamase, Karatsu, which is known as old Karatsu pottery clay, and the work is beautiful in its bright biwa color. Each time you use a sake cup, the depth of its flavor increases. Enjoy the fun of growing your own pottery.
Karatsu ware has a rough base, so sudden temperature changes can cause it to crack and break. Avoid using microwaves and dishwashers as they can also damage the dishes.
